The community of Kragerø hosted the spring Meeting of the Representatives of Gea Norvegica Geopark. Meeting participants were politicians from the eight owner municipalities, together with two politicians from the county council.
The meeting was held at Kragerø’s new pride and joy, the SPA Hotel at Stabbestad. After the meeting, the participants went on an excursion to inspect a natural recreation area and Geopark locality out in the mouth of the fjord at Portørhalvøya i Kragerø. Participants were given a presentation about the local history and geology, by Elise Bjørg Finstad from the Kragerø Trekking Association and geologist and Project leader for Geopark, Kristin Ragnes. Kragerø Trekking Association is responsible for the running and maintenance of the buildings at Stangnes. The houses that are there today were built in roughly 1875. In the summer season the main house is open to the public on weekends, and there is sale of food items such as waffles, coffee and soft drinks.
